FAQ’s

“What should I wear?”

Many men wear suits and women wear dresses. Some are more “dress casual” in their attire. A few wear jeans.

We believe that when we gather for worship, we come into the presence of the Lord. We try to encourage everyone to dress with this in mind.

“Where do we and our children go when we arrive?”

Bible Classes Begin at 10:40 A.M.

If you arrive in time for Bible classes, someone will greet you and direct you to the appropriate rooms. We offer age-appropriate classes for all ages including children, teens, college-age adults, as well as three other adult classes.  All classes are taught by volunteers. All teachers are required to have a background check before working with children.

When classes end, you will be given time to return to your child’s classroom, pick them up, and head to our 10:30 am worship gathering in the auditorium.

“What is the Sunday morning service like?”

We gather in our auditorium for worship. As you enter you will see many pews. You may feel free to sit wherever you are most comfortable.

After some opening comments, we will offer praise to the Lord with some acapella singing (congregational songs with no instruments) led by one of our male members.

At some point during our singing, we will pause for Scripture reading and prayer. This too will be done by some of our male members.

After some more singing, all members of the Lord’s church will participate in communion (known as the Lord’s Supper). We do this every Sunday. During this time we center our minds about Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins.

At the conclusion of the Lord’s Supper, we will also be given the opportunity to worship by giving back to the Lord some of the money we have earned. Only members are asked to give at this time. As a guest, please do not feel obligated to give when the plate is passed by you.

Finally, we hear from a speaker who preaches a lesson from the Bible. Sermons last around 30 minutes. At the conclusion of the message, those who might wish to become a Christian or are in need of prayers of forgiveness are invited to come to the front.

Worship

When you visit one of our Sunday services, you can expect to find a simple worship service that adheres to the teachings of the New Testament. When we assemble on every Lord’s Day (Acts 20:7Revelation 1:10), which is Sunday, we will worship God by . . .

  • Praying: We are led by different men in our congregation (1 Timothy 2:1-8).

  • Singing: The whole congregation joins together in praising God in song without the use of musical instruments (Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16). In case anyone is unfamiliar with one of the songs, the words are available in our songbooks and also on a screen in front of the auditorium. Many of our visitors choose to join us in singing, while others prefer simply to listen as we worship.

  • Taking Communion: Every Sunday, our members remember Christ’s death by eating unleavened bread and drinking fruit of the vine (Acts 20:7). We sit quietly for a few minutes and reflect on how wonderful it is that God loved us enough to give his own Son for us!

  • Preaching: We will enjoy a Bible lesson that lasts about 30 minutes (Acts 2:42; Romans 10:14). On most Sundays, Mark Howell, our preaching minister, presents these lessons, though occasionally a guest speaker will guide our thoughts. Each lesson will take a Bible passage and explain what it means and how it applies to our lives.

  • Giving: Each member of this congregation contributes weekly to the work of the church (1 Corinthians 16:2). We do not ask or expect our visitors to give anything in the offering.

Wednesday Night Bible Study

Our Wednesday evening service begins at 6:30pm. Everyone goes directly to one of many classes being offered. Children will be taught in age-appropriate classes by teachers who have a prepared an exciting Bible lesson. Both teen and college age classes are are provided. An adult class meets in the auditorium.

At about 7:10pm, a bell rings summoning all classes to the auditorium. Following some announcements to the church, which include upcoming events and prayer requests for various needs, there will be a brief devotional that lasts about 5 minutes. At the conclusion of our devotional, we spend a few minutes allowing our young boys to each lead a verse of a song. This serves as a great training time for these future leaders. When this is finished, we close our service with a prayer.

Word of God

You can expect us to have a wholesome respect for the inspired Word of God, the sole and complete authority.  Because the Midway Church of Christ accepts the Word of God as the all-sufficient rule of faith and practice, we reject all human creeds (Galatians 1:8-9Revelation 22:18-19).

Becoming a Christian

If you’re interested in becoming a Christian, we would love to have an opportunity to share what the Bible says to you about your relationship to God. The Bible teaches that we are saved by God’s grace, not through our own efforts or through our ability to do good works (Ephesians 2:8-9). We are saved completely by what Jesus did for us at the cross.

In order to accept God’s offer of salvation, we believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God (John 8:24). God convicts us of our sinfulness and leads us to commit our lives to him, which involves our repenting of and turning away from our past lives of sin (Luke 13:3). We confess our faith in Jesus (Romans 10:9-10) and accept the free gift of salvation as we are baptized into Christ for the forgiveness of our sins (Acts 2:38Romans 6:3-5).

As Christians, we try to live for Christ, though we fail him often. We draw encouragement from our relationship to local Christians in the church, and we worship God regularly. As we study the Bible, we grow in our knowledge and understanding, and God shapes us into the person he created us to be.

If you have any questions about spiritual matters, or if we can help you in any way, please contact us. We would be thrilled to have an opportunity to get to know you better and to talk to you about God’s plans for your life.
